Much of the healthcare industry has turned virtual and online since the widespread outbreak of COVID-19, leaving many companies with the task of finding safe solutions to still serve their clients and patients.

As virtual health looks to gain momentum in the foreseeable future, tele-pharmacy startup CourMed is focusing on centering itself at the intersection of tech and healthcare.

According to theGrio, the mobile application utilizes enterprise software to crowdsource medical supply deliveries from healthcare providers to patients safely and directly to their own homes.

Launched in 2018, the startup targets patients who are 55 and older, as it aims to deliver items such as prescription meds, vitamins, supplements, CBD oil, home medical supplies, and more in addition to being a source of support.

Prior to the pandemic, the demand for virtual health was low compared to where we find ourselves now as we seek an influx of virtual methods during social distancing, and CourMed is now perfectly positioned to fill this void.

“What CourMed does is perfectly fit to keep people home and healthy,” Derrick L. Miles, President and Chief Executive Officer of CourMed, said.

According to Miles — an HBCU grad of Bethune-Cookman University — the healthcare industry has a history of being behind on the latest technology, theGrio reports. This is why it was imperative for his startup to create and patent his inventions with the expectation that he’d see a return on his investments.

“Healthcare was still using courier models until we launched in 2018,” Miles told theGrio. “And still today, in 2020, we have zero competition as far as delivering packages in the way that we do it.”

He added: “I was always a person trying to think of ways to do it better, quicker, faster,” as the delivery model for CourMed has been dubbed the “Uber of healthcare.”

CourMed acquired six figures in its first year of business and worked to scale by 300 percent in their second year through local celebrity endorsements that appealed to their audience, theGrio revealed.

According to a press release, this past February, Microsoft’s tech incubator — Microsoft for Startups — chose CourMed to receive overall support from the corporation to help build up its service for patients nationwide.

“We heard that Microsoft was committing $500 Million to offer joint sales engagements to qualified startups, and we are honored that our innovative platform caught their attention,” said Miles in a statement. “It’s a blessing to have demand for our concierge services to scale nationwide, and it’s a double blessing to have the additional technical, business and sales enablement support from a reputable, progressive company such as Microsoft.”

Today, CourMed is able to boast about their 5-star reviews and continues to aid in senior communities across America.
